Stiftung Warentest: Bertolli Originale Extra Virgin Olive Oil Receives Good Rating Again
Whether for smell, taste, or chemical quality, Stiftung Warentest tests olive oils in Germany thoroughly, providing consumers with important guidance. This year, 25 extra virgin olive oils were examined. Among the top 5 once again in 2025 is the extra virgin olive oil Originale from market leader Bertolli.
“We are delighted with the good result for our Bertolli Extra Virgin Olive Oil Originale in the latest olive oil test by Stiftung Warentest. With an overall score of 2.5 for Bertolli Extra Virgin Olive Oil Originale and 2.6 for Bertolli Extra Virgin Olive Oil Gentile, we were once again placed in the top 10 this year. This is a particularly good achievement in view of the challenging situation in the raw materials market of the last two years due to increasing droughts and crop failures. It drives us further to exceed the expectations of our consumers. As the leading olive oil brand, we have the responsibility to consistently deliver outstanding products”, explains Tomislav Bucic, General Manager of Deoleo Deutschland GmbH.
In 2021, Bertolli Originale was already recognized as the “best classic brand olive oil” – and it also impressed in the current test with its balanced flavour with a delicate note of green almond and green apple (sensory quality: grade 2.2). The olive oil also performed well in the chemical quality category, with a grade of 2.2. The Bertolli Gentile Extra Virgin olive oil also impressed the expert jury in both the sensory and chemical analysis. The olive oil performed well in both categories, with a score of 2.4. This year’s result also reflects Bertolli’s long-standing commitment to quality and sustainability – in particular, its commitment to sustainable and ethical practices at every stage of the production process in order to have a positive impact on the future of the planet.
For 160 years, Bertolli has stood for high-quality extra virgin olive oil blends. These are always carefully tailored to the taste preferences of German consumers. Bertolli’s quality experts test around 20,000 samples annually to select only the best raw materials and ensure the highest standards. By artfully combining different flavour profiles – such as sweetness, bitterness and fruitiness – they create the iconic Bertolli blends. This dedication to excellence has been recognized many times in the past by Stiftung Warentest – most recently with a “good” rating in 2020, 2021 and 2022. In addition, Bertolli Extra Virgin Olive Oil Originale and Bertolli Extra Virgin Olive Oil Gentile received the Gold Quality Award from the German Agricultural Society (DLG) in 2024.
Product safety is also of utmost importance to Bertolli. Strict quality protocols ensure that all food safety regulations are consistently met. Additionally, Bertolli guarantees complete transparency – from production, through the origin of raw materials, to maintaining the quality of products on their way to consumers’ kitchens. This aligns with the goal of being a driving force for positive change in the industry.
